Textile Crescent UMC Churches
The Textile Crescent Churches were formed some years ago by the "Mill" Churches in the Greenville area. They would get together for revivals, singings, and fellowship. The name "Crescent" was chosen because if you were to draw a connecting line between all of the churches on a map, it would form the shape of a crescent moon. A group of pastors have gotten together in the last few months from these churches and began to pray together and talk about the challenges facing our small congregations. We began to talk about our ministries, our worship services, and our educational programs in an effort to share with one another what was working well in our individual churches. Out of this discussion, an idea was born to revise the old model of the "Textile Crescent" churches and create new and more relevant joint activities. We found that if one church already has a "movie night" or other such program, then why should all the other churches attempt to duplicate that, when everyone who is interested in that activity could attend what is already going on. We began to look for what programing strengths each church already had, and simply invite each other to those events. The intent of our combined program offerings is to give people more choices for Bible Study, different styles of worship, musical programing, and fellowship. This is to be able to offer people some of the same variety of choices that they might find in a larger church, which smaller churches may not have the resources to do. Because this is meant as a means of offering more variety in spiritual experiences, people should not feel obligated to go to any of the events, they are just there for everyone to enjoy if they want to participate.
A detailed schedule of events is available in the Narthex of all the Crescent churches: Dunean, Bethel, Piedmont Park, Monaghan, St. Mark, and Esperanza. You will be blessed by attending any of these additional special services with your fellow Christians in other churches.
